Import

Materials, components, sub-assemblies, products and other merchandise imported to Finland are purchased from suppliers who sell the goods most cost efficiently when taking into account the price, quality, and freight costs. However, this alone does not guarantee the profitability of imports, but attention must also be paid to logistics and transport as part of the deal. The management of import logistics emphasizes not only freight costs, but also the ability to realistically assess transportation schedules, ensure the availability of information, react quickly when unforeseen factors arise, and as a whole, handle the shipments to the import company’s gratification.

A professional forwarding company is of invaluable assistance when making logistics decisions. Based on the delivery term, the forwarding company must be able to select the most appropriate and economical method of transport, take care of customs clearance and other forwarding procedures and connect the links in the transport chain to minimize any inconvenience.

We can offer you:

Sea transport

We handle overseas transport with customs formalities.
Due to our cooperation with several shipping companies we can select among many different alternatives depending on the places of departure and destinations.

In sea freight less than container loads (LCL) refer to a consignment shipped in a sea container and unloaded in the port of destination. Full container loads (FCL) on the other hand are transported in full units from the loading place to their destination. SNcargo handles both LCL and FCL freights with customs formalities either to port or door-to-door, depending on the terms of delivery.

On the right you can see the measurements for the 20´ and 40´ containers, which may vary a bit depending on the shipping company and the age of the container.

20`

Inside measurement:
lenght: 5,89 m
widht: 2,33 m
height: 2,37 m
door widht: 2,32 m
door height: 2,28 m
maximum weight: 24000 kg
maximum loading weight: 21750 kg
weight of empty container: 2250 kg
maximum volume: 32,5 cbm
holds 11 eur pallets

40`

Inside measurement:
lenght: 12,01 m
widht: 2,33 m
height: 2,37 m
door widht: 2,32 m
door height: 2,28 m
maximum weight: 30480 kg
maximum loading weight: 26480 kg
tweight of empty container: 4000 kg
maximum volume: 66 cbm
holds 23 eur pallets

In addition to the above-mentioned standard containers, flat racks, HC containers, open top containers and open side containers can also be used in shipments. However, shipping companies do not have as wide selections of special sizes as standard ones, which means that reservations for non-standard sizes are to be made well in advance.

We submit replies to inquiries as speedily as possible. In case the inquiry involves the EXW delivery term in import or the DDU, DAP or DDP term in export, we need to consult our local representative about inland freight as well as customs and other clearance expenses. Due to the time difference, this usually means one more working day is needed to answer your inquiry.

Measurements of non-standard containers used in shipping: A HC container is higher than standard with inside height: 2.67 m, door height: 2.58 m, other measurements similar to those of a 40´container.

An open top container can be loaded from the top.

An open side container can be loaded from the side.

Road transport

We arrange import transport by truck between Finland and the following countries:

Austria, Albania, Armenia, Azerbaidzan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Britain, Bulgaria, Croatia, CzechRepublic, Slovania, Denmark, Estonia, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

We arrange the transport of groupage, part loads and full loads from door to door in the above-mentioned countries provided the customs and traffic technical requirements can be met. We provide transport outside the EU with the necessary export clearance and transport from outside the EU with import clearance.

We also see to the filling in of any other necessary documents in international transport.

Groupage service
We handle the transport of groupage in cooperation with a network that covers all Europe. Our representatives in each country have personnel familiar with local circumstances and a network of terminals. This enables smooth collection and delivery of groupage.

Part loads
Part load refers a consignment, which is not unloaded in terminals between start and destination. No collection or delivery trucks are used, but the same truck drives the goods to the destination.

Part loads as well as full loads are handled either in cooperation with our local representatives or we use any free transport capacity available, in other words other transport vehicles near the loading location. Our cooperation with several transport companies enables this.

We also handle the transport of very wide or very high loads as well as the transport of hazardous substances, the so-called IMO transport.

Air transport

Our global network of contacts specialized in airfreight helps us to transports your import and export shipments by air. The network of our cooperation partners cover more than 200 countries.

We select the airline and route depending on the demands the client makes on the transport schedule. If the shipment is extremely urgent, we arrange a flight as direct as possible. In some cases combined air and road transport is fast enough. An example of this is goods from the Far East arriving at Frankfurt by air and continuing to Helsinki in an airline truck.

If the delivery term in import transport is EXW or FCA, we arrange transport from the shippers' warehouse to the departure airport as well as customs clearance in cooperation with our local representative company specialized in airfreight.

Rail transport

SNcargo Ltd arranges rail transport from the following counties in the CIS group, the Caucasus and Central Asia:

Armenia, Azerbaijan, China, Georgia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korean, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Belarus and Russia.

Transport can be arranged provided there are railway cars and containers available and the operating environment remains stable.
SNcargo Ltd recommends rail transport when it is more economical than road or sea transport and there are railway cars and containers available to suit the client’s timetable, and when the quality standard expected by the client can be achieved by using rail transport.

The strength of the railway lines and the minimal rolling resistance between the rail and the railway wheel enable the transport of heavy loads at high speed. Particularly in continental Europe rail transport is considered a much eco-friendlier alternative than transport by road and a welcome way to reduce traffic congestion in highways.

Apart from being an environmentally sound choice, rail transport is in certain circumstances a cost efficient alternative to road and sea transport. However, rail transport is often less flexible than road transport, and it is usually not speedy and inexpensive enough to be used for transporting single consignments and part loads.

On the other hand, when shipping full trailer loads (FTL) and full sea containers (FCL) as well as other heavy loads, rail transport may be a highly competitive alternative provided there is a rail connection. The same gauge in all the countries along the transport route facilitates rail transport considerably. Finland and the CIS countries share the same gauge, which provides good opportunities for rail transport.

Transport of oversize cargo

What does oversize cargo mean in road, sea and air transport?
In this context oversize cargo refers to an item whose dimensions and/or weight are so big that regular transport equipment cannot be used (containers in sea transport and trailers in road transport).

In air transport oversize cargo cannot be defined in the same way as the measurements of the cargo hold vary depending on the plane type. Additionally, airlines decide case-specifically the size of cargo items loaded on each flight. Therefore the availability of air transport depends on the types of planes, the plane’s other intended cargo and the airline’s decision.

Important for the client to keep in mind:
Particularly in case of oversize cargo, the client shall carefully check the maximum dimensions and gross weight of the transportable items and inform the forwarding agent of them. This will ensure that the goods can be loaded and transported as agreed. Another point to take into account is that loading and unloading may impose special requirements, such as the availability of a crane.

Added value provided by SNcargo in the transport of oversize cargo:
As professionals we know every little detail that must be taken into consideration both in the transport chain and the flow of information. We know which questions to ask our client to be able to handle the transport needs to the client’s satisfaction.

We look forward to hearing from you to learn what your transport needs are. Based on our wide experience we can offer you competitive solutions to transport your oversize cargo by road, sea or air to fulfil any special requirements you may have.

Moving transport

SNcargo Ltd handles moving transport by road, sea and air to Finland and from Finland. However, SNcargo does not provide any moving service.

What is the difference between moving transport and moving service?

A moving service company usually sees to transport, provides the moving boxes, packs and carries the movables from the old location to the vehicle and at the destination from the vehicle to the new location. Transport of movables, on the other hand, is a service less comprehensive and clearly less expensive as the people moving are themselves responsible for tasks that would be carried out by moving service companies.

Moving transport is a sensible alternative in situations when the people moving are ready to do some of the work themselves to cut costs. Moving transport costs much less than comprehensive moving service as the movables are transported together with other cargo and less labour is required.

Tasks to be done by the people moving when they have bought moving transport:

  • Get sufficient and appropriate moving boxes and packing material and pack the movables.
  • Load the movables on a truck or in a container.
  • Unload the movables from the truck or the container and move them to the destination.
  • When moving outside the EU, provide the forwarding company with a list of the movables including values and weights. This information is needed for customs clearance.
  • It is advisable to take out insurance to cover at least the most expensive items.

How does the SNcargo service benefit a moving client?
A person moving can’t naturally be aware of all the different transport alternatives or what needs to be taken into consideration when relocating the movables. The service provided by SNcargo benefits the moving client in the following concrete ways:

  • we find the most economical alternative to relocate the movables based on the information we are given
  • we advise and provide consultation with the practicalities, which will free the client’s mind of any uncertainties, stresses and strains involved in moving.

With the help of SNcargo Ltd moving is not a hassle.

Forwarding

The actual transfer of goods from one location to another plays only a minor part in the management of international transport and logistics. An unhindered flow of data among the supplier, recipient, carrier and other transport parties as well as the proper preparation of all the documents required in international transport to avoid any complications in transit are just as important as the carriage of goods.

SNcargo sees to all this and also performs the following procedures involved in foreign transport:

  • export clearance
  • import clearance
  • tariff classification
  • the intrastate statistics

We can also be of assistance when drawing up other import and export documents and meeting any legal requirements.

We carry out any tasks in compliance with the rules and regulations of the General Conditions of the Nordic Association of Freight Forwarders (NSAB 2000).
